IN PICTURES: More than a million Muslims perform Eid prayers at Prophet’s Mosque
June 25, 2017 - Written by Reporter:

More than one million worshipers, from citizens, residents, visitors and pilgrims, performed Eid al-Fitr prayers at the Prophet’s Mosque this year.

They filled the corridors of the Prophet’s Mosque to pray during the first day of Eid al-Fitr. Worshipers came early to catch some space at the mosque.

During Ramadan, Muslims abstain from food, drinks and sexual intercourse from dawn to dusk, which is an exercise in self-restraint, intended to bring the faithful closer to God.

Many Muslim-majority countries celebrate the end of Ramadan by granting public holidays.

Eid al-Fitr starts when the new moon is spotted in the sky, making the Eid holiday different around the world. The celebrations begin when the fasting month of Ramadan ends and the following month of Shawwal begins.
